A New Deal promise, kept

The Kansas Homestead Rehabilitation Corporation (KHRC) was founded after the Great Depression as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's "New Deal" to revitalize the rural economy and support displaced farming families. When the Federal Emergency Relief Act of 1933 was passed, it laid the groundwork for coordinated efforts between state and federal governments to offer relief without creating extensive federal bureaucracies.

By 1934, specialized rural rehabilitation corporations such as KHRC were established to administer loans, purchase and manage farmland, and support cooperative community initiatives. KHRC played a significant role in facilitating land ownership, ensuring disadvantaged Kansas farmers could regain their footing with access to affordable land and loans.

Today, KHRC continues that commitment: low-interest loans tailored to the needs of farmers across Kansas, sustaining the legacy of family farming and keeping the rural economy resilient for the next generation.
